Thomas Tuchel Criticizes Home Fan Atmosphere Following Comfortable Win Over Wales.
Thomas Tuchel shared his disappointment that the England team did not enjoy greater support from the home crowd during their commanding triumph over Wales on Thursday night.
The manager was happy to see his side continue their winning momentum, with finishes from Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Saka inside the first 20 minutes settling the match. Yet, he was not content with the mood at the iconic venue.
“With limited sessions to get ready against a well-trained team and we performed excellently,” Tuchel stated. “We could have been 5-0 up at the break. We couldn’t score the additional ones. There was little noise. We didn’t get support back from the crowd. We did everything to win.”
“What more can you provide in the first quarter? We prevented them get away. When you only hear just the Welsh supporters for 30 minutes, it’s sad because the team deserved greater backing today.”
“I maintain my words. We cannot do more than leading 3-0 in a derby. I would have wished for a greater backing in periods where it becomes tough.”
“After halftime, to support us, there was excessive backing for the opposition. It might have aided us to regain energy, but that’s football and that is it.”
Selection Choices Justified by Display
Apart from potentially starting a dispute among supporters, Tuchel also raised eyebrows by leaving out Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden from his team selection. But the move was validated by Morgan Rogers impressing again in the No 10 position and scoring his maiden goal for his country.
“He plays his game,” the head coach noted. “He operates as an attacking midfielder and he is vying for his position.”
Wales Manager Hopes for Improvement from Defeat
The Wales manager expressed hope that Wales, who face Belgium in a important World Cup qualifier on next week, learn from their disappointing performance in the opening period.
“That’s the reason I wanted this game,” Bellamy said. “I wanted to assess where we are. Where do we want to go? What is our identity? Today gives me drive.”
Fitness Worry for Watkins
Watkins was taken off at the break after clattering into a post and will be a doubt when the national team play Latvia in the Latvian capital in a World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday.
