19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard courts
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.
The athlete, a ex- number one, has had a challenging year, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the American major.
His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in especial - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-term trainer Cervara.
Now collaborating with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set win over Frenchman Moutet.
This represents his maiden title following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court from March of 2023.
The win also signifies Medvedev has secured 21 victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my children together, so to get a championship is really nice," commented tennis professional Medvedev.
"This title is in honour of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."
The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six finals, including in the German tournament earlier this year.
Medvedev's counter-punching play style and frequent reactions on the playing surface had led some to wonder if his ability to play at the highest level was concluded.
But the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an better serving game.
Medvedev fought back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, taking 4 of the last five games to gain the advantage.
The competitors swapped service breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his first ATP Tour title, took control to push for a third set.
Moutet rescued 4 early chances in a competitive third set before the champion broke to 15 to serve for the match.
Suitably, Medvedev secured the title with a point at the net, with the Frenchman unable to control a return after over two and a half hours.
