A man who contaminated treats with sleeping medication and gave them to youngsters at a youth camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two children who were nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and an older person fell ill at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
However, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.
The defendant was kept in jail ahead of a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Treat game'
The prosecutor, presenting evidence, detailed the criminal behavior to the court.
She stated his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer camp which he managed.
The defendant engaged in a "candy game" with the children, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and tell them to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She told the court the defendant had engaged in this activity with the children "repeatedly", and children had previously become sick the following morning.
She said the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had worries in recently.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "This year his stepchild had worries about the activities, justifiably.
"They resolved" to examine in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC explained materials including baby oil, ointment and injection devices were discovered, and his family member contacted the law enforcement about his concerns.
She explained the man went on to engage in the "candy game" with six children that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the next day.
"The police had not responded by that time," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the incident.
The legal representative said the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so the family member contacted the police once more.
She stated the defendant then played the "treat game" in a area of five children.
